Scale
Many of our members enjoy both the building and flying of scale models. Whilst some do this for the pure enjoyment of both building and flying there are, in addition to this, two scale competitions each year.
The Yorke cup is open to scale fixed wing models of any type of aircraft including gliders that have been scratch built by the owner / pilot or built from a kit of parts or from a plan. b) ARTF and RTF models are not allowed. The model should be as accurate as possible and a clearly recognisable facsimile of a full size aircraft. The model owner must also be the builder and pilot, bought models not allowed. A photograph or two of the original aeroplane will help to assure judges of the model’s scale accuracy and add points to the final score.
- There will be two flying rounds each of up to 5 minutes duration with a minimum of two minutes duration for each round.
- There are no set manoeuvres other than take-off and landing. It is up to the competitor to demonstrate the model in the most favourable manner.
- You can find the finer details in the Yorke Cup Rules which are here.
The Peter Hales Memorial Scale Competition is open to scale models of any type of aircraft, including helicopters and gliders, ARTF’s will not be penalised compared to scratch built models but the model must be a recognisable representation of a full size aircraft. A competitor may enter a maximum of two models. There are no rules governing the ownership of models or whether they were scratch-built or they are ARTF’s; however points and places will only be awarded to the pilots of the models.
- There will be two flying rounds; each of 5 minutes duration, after which time the competitor will be asked to land. There are no set manoeuvres other than take-off and landing.
